The renovation is finished, the furniture is on its way, and every surface in the apartment is covered in fine construction dust. An ordinary clean can’t deal with it: the dust rises into the air and settles again shortly after. Here is a checklist to help you prepare and make sure nothing important is missed.
Before the cleaning: what to do in advance
- Wait until all the work is finished. If an electrician or tiler comes after the cleaning, the dust comes back. Post-renovation cleaning is the very last stage.
- Get the construction debris removed. Bags of mortar, offcuts and packaging are taken away by the builders or a separate service, so cleaning starts from a clear floor.
- Check water and power. A proper clean is impossible without running water and electricity.
- Note where protective film is left. Film on windows, doors and appliances: tell us about it when you book.
What post-renovation cleaning covers
We clean the whole apartment from top to bottom, so dust never falls on surfaces that are already clean:
- dust from walls, ceiling corners, doors and door frames;
- paint, grout and glue marks on tiles, window sills and fittings, where the finish allows;
- radiators, sockets, switches and ventilation grilles on the outside;
- kitchen and bathroom: tiles, fixtures, taps and mirrors;
- cabinets and built-in furniture inside and out, if they are already installed;
- floors, in several passes to lift the fine dust out of the joints.
How the price is calculated
Post-renovation cleaning is priced by area: from 1,000 ֏ per m². The minimum order is 35,000 ֏. This is fairer than a per-room price, because after a renovation every square metre needs far more work than in a normal clean.
Windows are cleaned separately, on the window price list: a standard single-sash window starts from 2,200 ֏, a two-sash one from 3,500 ֏ and a three-sash one from 4,800 ֏. Windows after a renovation carry a 40% surcharge.
Checklist for accepting the work
When the cleaning is done, walk through the apartment and check:
- run a hand along the window sill and the top of a door: there should be no dust;
- look at the tiles in side light for grout haze;
- open the cabinets and drawers: they should be clean inside;
- check mirrors, taps and glass for streaks;
- look behind the radiators and into the corners of the floor.
If anything has been missed, say so straight away. That is the easiest moment to put it right.
What comes next
After a couple of weeks in the new apartment, a little dust from gaps and vents may show up again. That is normal after a renovation. A regular clean is a good answer, or a deep clean if a lot of work has built up after the move.
